  Trail Running

One of the most freeing and relaxing workouts on land is that of trail running.  Whether you are going light and fast with just a water bottle, adventure running with a hydration pack or doing a 2 day fastpacking trip, it is freedom from the stress of daily activities.

And, it gets you back to our ancestral travel by foot, even if just for an hour workout.  Many people complain of pain with they run, and I used to be one of them.  However, with cross training with functional exercise and cycling, I was able to overcome this pain.  Additionally, my body learned to adapt to the distances.

Finally, one thing that trail running does that road running does not is allow you to view the beauty of nature while your move.  It could be a mother deer and her fawn, or a squirrel looking for nuts.... either is invigorating.  Most people won't "stop and smell the roses" when they are road running.  But this extends your time out trail running and there are plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy.
